With the move to the uniform payment system called SEPA, direct debits have been adapted to the SEPA administration system.

You do not need to do anything. The Municipal Tax Department has moved your current authorisation for direct debit to the new SEPA system. SEPA direct debits will be deducted as usual from the bank account number that you have submitted. New bank account numbers will be supplemented with the requirerd IBAN details so you do not need to fill these in.

Request direct debit :
** Request direct debit online.
** You can also make your request in writing using the authorisation form for direct debit. This form is attached to your municipal tax assessment. As the authorisation continues until you cancel it, you do not need to submit the authorisation form every year.

Cancelling direct debit :
** Cancel your direct debit online.
** You can also cancel your direct debit in writing by filling in a red cancellation form and sending it to the Municipal Tax Department. You can get the red form from your bank.

Note :
if you stop the direct debit, you will not receive an acceptgiro payment transfer slip. However, you are still liable for paying the outstanding amount in full.

Change bank account number :
Change your bank account number online.

Change name registration :
Has your name as stated on the assessment notice changed, because of marriage for example- Then you need to submit a new request for direct debit. This is because all tax payers are assigned a unique number. This ‘subject number’ is linked to the direct debit application.

If only the name on your bank card has changed, you do not need to submit a new request for direct debit.

Blocked direct debit (storno) :
If, for example, you have insufficient funds in your bank account, you will receive a so-called ‘storno’. A storno is when a direct debit payment is blocked. You will receive a letter with the request to make the payment yourself. The direct debit will be continued the following month. If the payment is blocked a second time, you will receive a letter to pay the outstanding amount in full. The direct debit will then be stopped for the rest of the year. It will be reactivated when the next municipal tax assessment is sent. You can ask your bank the reason for the stop payment.

You will not receive an acceptgiro payment transfer slip once the direct debit has been blocked. You will receive a letter instead. You then have to pay the taxes using another form of payment. Read how you can do this under paying municipal taxes.

Disagree with the amount debited :
If you disagree with the amount debited, you have 8 weeks in which to order your bank to have the payment reversed. You can get a form to have the payment returned or to cancel the authorisation for payment at your bank.

Conditions :

De volgende gemeentelijke belastingen kunt u betalen met een automatische incasso :
** property tax (onroerende-zaakbelastingen/OZB)
** waste tax (afvalstoffenheffing)
** sewage charge for owners (rioolheffing van eigenaren)

The total amount on the notice of assessment may not exceed € 2,500.

Deducting the payments :
If you have direct debit, the Municipal Tax Department will automatically deduct the payment for your municipal tax assessment from your bank account. This is done in up to 12 monthly instalments.

The Municipal Tax Department deducts the instalments around the 25th of the month.

The first instalment is deducted within 1 month after the date stated on the assessment. It is advisable to request direct debit immediately after receiving the assessment. If you do this later, there will be fewer months to make the deductions. The amount that you pay per month will then be higher. You can still request direct debit if you have received a warning of non-payment or an order to pay.

If you have contested the assessment or you have applied for a postponement of payment, this can change the direct debit amounts.

Account number of the Tax Department :
When you pay your taxes by direct debit, you will see the bank account number of the Municipal Tax Department on your bank statement. As of the end of April 2014 the account number is NL 12 BNGH 0285133675. This was previously NL 42 INGB 0000006927.
