MPU TT REAP & Electrification Programmes

The Ministry of Public Utilities is committed to improving the social and economic well being of the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago, through the provision of a safe and reliable supply of electricity services.

The Ministry through its Electrification and Residential Electrification Assistance Programme (REAP) programmes will foster rural and urban equity and assist low income households and communities in accessing an electricity supply.

Communities and Households in need of an electricity supply should apply to the Electrification Programme; and persons in need of House wiring / re wiring services due to no internal wiring or faulty wiring, should apply to the REAP.

Electrification Programme

Objective: The programme entails the provision of electricity poles and the associated electrical infrastructure (Transformers, Low Voltage lines) to households and communities.

Programme Targets :
** Households without an electricity supply
** Communities without an electricity supply

Documents Required :
** Completed Application Form
** Copy of Identification Card – (ID/DP/Passport)
** Letter of Capital Contribution cost from T&TEC (outlining cost of electrical infrastructure e.g. poles, Transformers, Low Voltage lines, etc.)

Land Documents required for Household / Communities- (Copy of Deed or Certificate of Title / Rental Agreement from Landowner)
** In the event that the owner of the land has died, the applicant must present a death certificate and a letter of administration certifying that he / she has permission to conduct business of any sort on the land.

** If the deed does not belong to the applicant, he/she must provide a letter from the owner of the land giving T&TEC permission to install the necessary electrical infrastructure on the land.

The applicant must also provide a valid copy of the Identification Card of the owner.

** Land Documents for Squatting Households / Communities ( Copy of Certificate of Comfort or Letter of non-objection from State Agency/Enterprise indicating occupancy for five years and over or Statutory Declaration swearing occupancy for five years and over).

Notes on the Electrification Programme:
** Applicants requiring Electrification assistance must have a dwelling house(s) constructed on the property.
** If the land has been approved for agricultural use then the applicant can only benefit from one (1) electrical connection.
** The programme does not cater for Land Developers, Commercial and Industrial applicants.
** The Ministry of Public Utilities reserves the right to request proof of income (Job Letter and Pay Slip) for the applicant.

Residential Electrification Assistance Programme

Objective: The programme entails the provision of electrical wiring/rewiring and relevant electrical pole extension to households.

Programme Criteria:
Applicants with a total household income of less than $6,000.00 per month.

Priority will be given to the following :
** Pensioners, inclusive of Old Age Pensioners or recipients of Public Assistance;
** Persons with disabilities; and
** Persons affected by fire or natural disaster

Documents Required :
** Completed Application Form
** Copy of Identification Card – (ID/DP/Passport)

Land Documents for non Squatting Household / Communities- (Copy of Deed / Certificate of Title / Rental Agreement from Landowner)

Application Forms

Electrification Programme :
** Application forms are available at the Ministry of Public Utilities (MPU) offices, all of T&TEC’s Service Centres and on the Ministry’s website (click here).
** Completed forms are to be submitted to the MPU or any of T&TEC’s Service Centres
** Where the Capital Contribution cost is under$50,000; completed applications will be processed by the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC)
** Where the estimated cost is over $50,000; completed applications will be processed by the Ministry of Public Utilities (MPU)

Completed forms to be dropped off at the MPU
