Online Birth/Death/Marriage Certificate Application Status :

After you have submitted your online application, you may use our Online Status Inquiry System to track the status of your application(s).

You can search for the status of your :
** Birth certificate(s)
** Marriage certificate(s)
** Death certificate(s)

If you have applied for a certificate online, you will need to provide the following information about the certificate request :
** Order Number, which can be found on your online certificate payment receipt
** The type of certificate you requested (Birth, Death or Marriage)
** Date of event (Birth, Death or Marriage)

If you have applied for a certificate via mail, you will need to provide the following information about the certificate request :
** Applicant name
** Name of the subject
** The type of certificate you requested (Birth, Death or Marriage)
** Date of the event (Birth, Death or Marriage)

Status information is only available the day after an application is entered into ServiceOntario’s processing system. Status information for your application should be available as follows :
** Online or Emergency : 1 business day after receipt
** Expedited : Up to 3 business days after receipt
** Regular (Mail) : Up to 5 weeks after receipt

Note :
At this time, status tracking is not available for Premium Online or registration requests. If your request cannot be processed, you will be contacted at the daytime telephone number provided during the online certificate application process.

Collection of Personal Information :
Personal information entered during this online status inquiry is collected under the authority of the Vital Statistics Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. V.4, and will be used to check the status of your application for birth, death or marriage certificates. For security purposes, the Office of the Registrar General will not retain personal information collected during this online status inquiry. For questions regarding the collection of your personal information and the disposal of your personal information following the completion of your status inquiry, contact the Office of the Registrar General.

Who is entitled to apply for a marriage certificate?
There are restrictions on who may apply for a marriage certificate. The parties to the marriage, children of the marriage, parents of the parties to the marriage and legally authorized representatives acting on behalf of these individuals are entitled to apply. Authorized representatives are required to provide proof of authorization.

Who is entitled to apply for a certified copy of marriage registration?
The parties to the marriage, and a legally authorized representative acting on behalf of either party to the marriage are entitled to apply. Authorized representatives are required to provide proof of authorization.

Brides and Grooms are referred to as the Parties to the marriage. Who is entitled to apply for a marriage certificate if one or both of the parties to the marriage is deceased?
The surviving party and Next of Kin – the parents of either party, children of the marriage and siblings of either party.

If all the Next of Kin are deceased, Extended Next of Kin may apply. Extended Next of Kin relationships include aunt, uncle, first cousin, grandchild, grandfather, grandmother, nephew and niece.

    I have not yet received copy of marriage certificate needed for name change, was just confirming application was received. Payment was made under James Sheppard MasterCard
