NT Apply for Planning Scheme Amendment

Planning schemes are dynamic documents that need to be amended from time to time to meet the changing challenges and requirements of land-use control.

An amendment of the planning scheme involves either the rezoning of land or changes, additions and deletions of text or diagrams contained in a planning scheme.

The Planning Act sets out the process for amendments to the planning scheme, including public exhibition, a public hearing and notification of the outcome of an amendment proposal.

Before you Apply

You can meet with a planner to get free advice on your application.
Land overlying the Berry Springs Dolostone Aquifer :
This land is currently subject to an Interim Development Control Order (IDCO). Your plans for using, developing or subdividing land in Berry Springs or a surrounding locality may be affected.

Concurrent Application :
If your application requires an amendment of the planning scheme and a development application, then you should consider a concurrent application.

How to Apply?

To apply for an amendment follow these steps :
Step 1 :
Prepare the following supporting documents
** a site and concept plan
** a statement about the nature and merits of the proposal
** information on the local services, such as public facilities, public transport and infrastructure
** supporting technical information, such as a traffic or vegetation analysis
** a land capability study if the proposal is within seasonal inundated or waterlogged areas.

Step 2 :
1. Go to the Development Applications Online website to lodge your application.
2. To find out how much you will need to pay, read about development and planning fees and forms -online services and fees.

Application Exhibition & Consideration Process

Your application will follow this process for exhibition and public comment.
Step 1 : If accepted by the Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics for exhibition, you must place yellow signs on the site and your proposal will be
** exhibited for 28 days as a proposed planning scheme amendment
** advertised in the newspaper
** referred to your local council and relevant service authorities for comment.

Step 2 : You will be sent copies of any comments received during the exhibition period.
Step 3 : If public submissions are received about your application, a reporting body hearing will be held. The meeting is open to the public. You and anyone who has submitted comments will be invited to attend. Read more about planning commission hearings, upcoming dates and agendas.

Step 4 : The minister will consider your proposal, any submissions received and advice from the reporting body and the Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics.
Step 5 : You will be told if your application is approved, altered and approved or refused.
