What you Need to Know

You can apply to receive or pay child support from a parent if you :
** are a separated parent or non-parent carer,
** have a child under 18 years old.
This means we assess the amount you should receive or pay based on a formula approved under Australian law.

Before we accept an application for a child support assessment, we must be satisfied that both parents are the legal parents of the children involved. We will contact the other parent and may contact you if more information is required.

Child Support & Family Assistance

Child support payments and Family Tax Benefit (FTB) Part A are closely linked and a change to one payment can affect the other, even if you arrange your child support payments privately or have a child support agreement.

A period of grace is granted for you to work out parenting arrangements and apply for child support after you separate. You may not be eligible for more than the base rate of FTB Part A if you do not complete this application and submit the details.

Completing this Application

You may need to provide the following information for you and the other party :
** Contact details,
** Reference numbers,
** Income,
** Bank account,
** Relationship details.
