NSW Claim a CTP Green Slip Refund

The NSW Government has reformed the compulsory third party (CTP) insurance scheme to reduce the costs of CTP Green slips for vehicle owners and better support people injured on our roads.

Who’s Eligible?

Your CTP insurance policy must have a start date before 1 December 2017. Refunds range between $10 and $120

Your eligibility and refund amount will also vary depending on
** your type of vehicle (excludes motorcycles)
** location of your vehicle.

How to Claim?

Step 1 : Visit the official website of New South Wales provided above and Check the eligibility requirements.

Step 2 : Select the ‘Claim online’ button.

Step 3 : Log into your MyServiceNSW Account, or sign up for an account.

Login

If you have a MyServiceNSW Account linked to Roads, log in and select ‘Claim CTP refund’ on your dashboard.

If you haven’t already linked Roads, log in to your MyServiceNSW Account and link to Roads.

Create an Account

If you don’t have an account click the Sign Up link in the Login page and enter the following details to create an account.
1. Enter your Email ID [This is also your account username.]
2. Enter the Password

Note : Use 7 or more characters including at least 1 number and 1 letter. For a stronger password, include uppercase, lowercase and special characters like punctuation marks.

3. Confirm your password [This must exactly match what you entered above.]

4. Click I agree to the Terms and Conditions*
5. Please tick this box so we know you’re not a robot and Click Next button

6. To activate your account, please enter the security code sent to your Email address and Click Create Account button.

Step 4 : Follow the prompts to submit your claim.
Step 5 : Your account will be credited with the refund in 10 working days.

FAQs

1. Who is not eligible for the refund?
Some passenger vehicle owners will not get a refund if their refund amount is less than the minimum entitlement of $10 before or after a small administration fee has been applied.

2. What is the administration fee for?
A small administration fee has been applied to each CTP policy eligible for a refund. This is necessary to cover the cost of online systems development, account establishment, customer support, correspondence and postage.

3. Why am I not able to claim a refund?
Some vehicle owners will not be able to claim a refund for the following reasons
** The refund does not apply to motorcycles
** The refund was below the $10 minimum amount
** Transfer of ownership papers were not submitted prior to 8 December 2017
** Vehicle was purchased after 30 November 2017

4. Is there a cut-off date to claim the refund?
Yes. Refunds need to be claimed by 30 September 2018. Business vehicle and taxi owners are also requested to deposit their refund cheques by this date.

5. What will happen to unclaimed refunds?
Unclaimed refunds will be returned to motorists through a reduction in the medical services levy next year, which makes up a part of all Green Slips.
