Plumbing Works

A plumbing system refers to the pipes and fixtures installed in premises/buildings. There are two types of plumbing systems in all facilities. One caters to the supply of tap water and the other takes care of the disposal of used water.

NEWater Quality

Singapore’s water is moderately soft and is safe to drink straight from the tap. To ensure that our water supply is clean and safe, water samples are regularly collected and analysed chemically and bacteriologically at the Water Testing Laboratory.

Tests are conducted to ensure that the quality of treated water is well within the World Health Organisation (WHO) Guidelines for Drinking-water Quality.

Water Price

Water is a precious resource, and its prudent use is key to our water sustainability.  Water pricing is an important and effective mechanism to reflect the scarcity value of water.

Water is priced not only to recover the full costs of its supply and production, but also to incorporate the higher cost of producing water from unconventional sources, specifically NEWater and desalinated water. The water price was last revised in 2000, over the period from 1997 to 2000.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is local catchment water?
Local catchment water is rainwater that falls on two-thirds of Singapore’s land surface collected by the nation’s 17 reservoirs and a network of drains, canals and stormwater collection ponds.

2. What is imported water?
Under two bilateral agreements, Singapore has been importing water from Johor, Malaysia. The first agreement expired in August 2011. The second agreement will expire in 2061.

3. Can I use tap water for home aquarium?
While Singapore’s tap water is safe to drink directly from the tap, the chlorine used as a disinfecting agent in tap water may not be suitable for some types of fish. Do add a dechlorinating agent in the water before using it for your aquarium.

You can also check with hobbyist groups such as the Koi Club (Singapore) for advices on managing aquariums

Who should I contact when there is an interruption in water supply?
