Find Lost or Stolen TFN :

If you can’t find your TFN. If you can’t find your TFN and do not suspect misuse, phone us on 13 28 61 between 8.00am and 8.00pm Monday to Friday and 10.00am to 4.00pm Saturday.

You can also phone Sunday between 10.00am to 4.00pm from 1 July to 31 October. If you have a myGov account linked to the ATO, you can access your TFN online. If you think your TFN has been stolen

If your TFN has been stolen or accessed by an unauthorised third party, call 1800 467 033 as soon as possible. We can apply security measures that will monitor for any unusual or suspicious activity with your TFN.

If your details have changed :
Using ATO online services is the quickest way to update :
** your name
** date of birth
** nominated representative
** contact details.
To access the service you will need a myGov account linked to the ATO.

How to use the online TFN registration – permanent migrants and temporary visitors :
The online Tax File Number (TFN) application is the fastest and easiest way to apply for a TFN. You can access the application at iar.ato.gov.auExternal Link

Note : If the online application is temporarily unavailable, you will receive a ‘Site under maintenance’ message. We recommend you try to access the Online TFN application again at a later time.

Steps to complete your online application :
Step 1 : Prepare your information
You will need the following information :
** passport or travel document number
** country of origin of your passport or travel document (the nationality country on your visa)

** names (exactly as they are printed on your passport or travel document)
** any other names you use or are known by
** date of birth (exactly as printed on your passport or travel document)
** spouse details

** existing TFN, Australian Business Number (ABN) or Centrelink Customer Reference Number (CRN)
** residential and postal addresses (your postal address must be in Australia)
** contact details (phone number and email address).
