FAQs :
1. What is Stolen and Lost Property Index (SPEX) ?
It is a repository containing information of selected properties that have been reported as stolen or lost. The system allows the public to verify if the pre-owned property they intend to purchase has a record in the system.

2. What are the pre-identified list of properties contained in SPEX?
I. Mobile Phones or Mobile Devices with IMEI number;
II. Laptops / Notebook Computers with brand and serial number;
III. Portable Media Players with brand and serial number;
IV. Digital Cameras with brand and serial number; and
V. Watches with brand and serial number.

3. Why is the list limited to these few properties?
These are properties which commonly have identifiable serial numbers.

4. What is a serial number?
It is a series of alphabets and / or numerals that forms an identifier assigned to certain properties.

Please note that the serial number is NOT the property’s model number. For handphones, this refers to the “IMEI” number which can be obtained by keying in *#06#*. Please check with your manufacturer if you need further assistance.

5. Who can use the SPEX?
Any member of public with a valid SingPass and ID may use SPEX. Information provided to SPEX may lead to follow-up enquiries by police.

Knowingly providing false information to the Police is an offence under Section 182 of the Penal Code and is punishable with imprisonment for one year, or $5000 fine, or both.

6. Do I need to pay for the usage of SPEX?
No costs are charged by SPF for the use of SPEX however normal data charges imposed by your Telco for Internet usage may apply, as this is an online service.

7. How many serial numbers can I screen at a time?
You can screen up to four serial numbers for one screening request. If you would like to screen more than four serial numbers, just click on the “Perform Another Screening” button at the end of each screening request
