1. I am a fresh applicant. What do I need to do to obtain the new Driver’s Licence?
Request from fresh applicants will only be processed from June 1, 2011. In the interim, fresh applicants should attend accredited driving schools, which will be required to sponsor all fresh applicants for the new Driver’s License.

2. Where can I find an accredited driving school?
A list of the accredited driving schools is provided on the driver’s licence website and at all Information Processing Centers.

3. What happens to Driver’s Licence that have recently expired, say in February 2011?
The validity of all licenses that expire between February and June 2011 has been extended till June 30, 2011.

4. Can I send somebody to an Information Processing Center with my passport photograph and other documents to process my licence application on my behalf?
All applicants MUST visit an Information Processing Center to have their biometric information captured. Passport photographs cannot be used to process the new drivers’ license.

5. After I supply my information, will I be able to change it later?
Some information (e.g. name) can be changed after it’s provided for the first time. However evidence of the change will need to be provided (e.g. marriage certificate). Information such as date of birth cannot be changed. This is why all information provided must be accurate.

6. How do I pay for the new licence?
Payment for the new licence can either be made online or at any of the participating banks.
7. How much will the new driver’s licence cost me?
The new driver’s license costs N6,000.

8. I just renewed my licence recently. Can I continue to use it until it expires?
All old licenses must be changed to the new license on or before March 31, 2012.

9. How long does it take to have my existing Driver’s Licence replaced with the new licence?
A temporary license (valid for 60 days) will be issued to you immediately you provide your biometric information. The Driver’s License will be ready upon the expiration of the temporary license.

10.How do I replace my existing driver’s licence with the new one?
(For applications submitted in manual forms)
** The license holder will obtain an application form from the VIO/BIR representative at the licencing office. The applicant will complete the form and submit it to one of the FRSC officers who will capture the information on the form into the Drivers’ License application.

The Applicant will then need to make payment for the application at a bank using an application id number which will be issued by the FRSC officer. Once payment has been made, the applicant will take the acknowledgement slip to the BIR officer in the licencing office for registration.

The applicant will then proceed to the VIO officer in the licencing office for screening and approval. After this, an FRSC officer at the licencing office will capture the applicant’s biometric information and issue a temporary drivers’ license which will be valid for 60 days. The driver’s licence will be available for collection within the 60 day period.

For applications submitted electronically :
The Applicant will access and complete the online application form. The Applicant will then need to make payment for the application either at a bank or online. Once payment has been made, the applicant will take the acknowledgement slip to the BIR representative in the licencing office for registration.

The applicant will then proceed to the VIO officer within the licencing office for screening and approval. After this, an FRSC officer at the Information Processing Center will capture the applicant’s biometric information and issue a temporary drivers’ license which will be valid for 60 days. The driver’s licence will be available for collection within the 60 day period.
