International Driver Permit :

International Driving Permits issued will be valid in countries that have signed on to the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic, such as, Bahamas, Brazil, Cuba, France, Italy, and Portugal, among others.

Applicants who wish to drive in a country which is not a signatory to the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic, must seek permission from that country before an International Driving Permit is issued.

It should also be noted that the permit will be valid for twelve (12) months from the date of issue.

The International Driving Permit will not be valid for use in Guyana and must be used in conjunction with a Guyanese Driver’s Licence when driving in a country listed under the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic.

Further, the International Driving Permit can only be used for the class of vehicle a person is currently allowed to drive based on their Guyanese Driver’s Licence.

International Driving Permits will only be issued at the Licence Revenue Office located at 200-201 Camp Street, Georgetown, Guyana.

Fees : US$10 (or its equivalent)
Estimated Processing Time : 30 minutes
Validity Period : 1 year (from the date of registration)

Requirements :
** Guyanese Driver’s Licence (must be valid for the next 6 months)
** National Identification Card (ID) or Passport

** Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN)
** Three (3) passport sized photographs
** Applicant must be eighteen (18) years or older

Procedure :
** Applicant must proceed to the Driver’s Licence Section, Licence Revenue Office
** Upon submission of documentation (including Guyanese Driver’s Licence), same will be verified by the Licence Officer.

** The applicant will be asked to wait while their documents are being processed, before proceeding to the Chasier to pay the relevant fees.

Note : The International Driving Permit will only be issued for the class of vehicle that you are currently allowed to drive in accordance with your Guyanese Driver’s Licence

Acquisition of a New Driver’s Licence using a ‘Foreign’ Driver’s Licence :
Fee: G$2,000.00
Validity Period: One month

Requirements :
** Valid Foreign Driver’s Licence (Original and Copy); if licence is not in English Language, a translation of the document from the respective Embassy or International Lanaguage Institute.

** Valid form of Identification: Identification Card or Passport
** One(1) passport sized photograph
** Completed Application Form

Note :
** Foreigners are reminded to utilise both their Foreign Driver’s Licence and Driver’s Permit issued by the Guyana Revenue Authority when driving in Guyana.

Standard Operating Procedure :
Receive the following documents from the Applicant :
i. Original and copy of the Current foreign drivers licence (if the licence is in a foreign language a translation of the licence obtained from the respective embassy or from the international language institute)

ii. One passport-sized photograph;
iii. Copy of valid Passport);
iv. Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN);
v. Completed Application Form for a New Driver’s Licence.

2. Vet the documents submitted and direct the Applicant to the waiting/lodgement area.
3. Receive documents and verify that the information in TRIPS corresponds with the information in the LRPS.

4. Does the information in TRIPS correspond with the information in the LRPS? If yes, proceed to Step 5. If no, go to Step 4.1
4.1 Refer the Taxpayer to the Registration Unit to update their Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) information in TRIPS.

5. Does the photograph submitted reflect the true likeness of the Applicant? If yes, proceed to Step 6. If no, go to Step 5.1.
