Alberta Apply for IQAS Certificate

Step 1 : Before you apply
IQAS evaluates formal academic / technical education. It doesn’t evaluate trades training or vocational / professional training.

Employment :
If you’re looking for a job, an IQAS assessment can help employers understand your education credentials. Attach a copy of your IQAS certificate to your resume and job applications when job searching, to help potential employers understand your educational credentials.

Education :
Some universities and colleges need an IQAS assessment for admission. When choosing a school or program to apply to, find out if they accept IQAS certificates.

Licensing :
Some professional regulatory organizations use IQAS assessments for their licensing process. IQAS provides 3 different types of assessments for employment, education or licensure purposes. Ensure that you know which type of assessment you need.

Assessment Types & Costs

1. Basic Assessment :
The most common assessment type, the Basic Assessment is useful if you’re seeking general employment.

It lists :
** the name of the institution attended
** the degree(s), diploma(s) or certificate(s) received

** the length of the program
** the area of specialization/focus of study
** a general statement outlining how your education compares to education in Canada

Cost :
Application fee : $100
Courier fees :
** to an address in Canada: $15
** to an address outside of Canada: $75

An additional cost of $100 is required to assess the National Dental Assisting Examining Board (NDAEB) course work report.

2. Educational Assessment :
Provides an evaluation for admission into specified universities, colleges or institutes (0.8 MB) in Alberta, Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories.

It lists :
** all of the information from the Basic Assessment
** level of achievement in specific high school subjects required for admission

For best assessment outcomes include both secondary and post-secondary credentials with transcripts / mark sheets for the Educational Assessment.

Cost :
Application fee : $100
Courier fees :
** to an address in Canada: $15
** to an address outside of Canada: $75

3. Specialized Assessment
This type of assessment is provided in special cases required by specific university, college (0.8 MB) or professional regulatory organizations (0.9 MB) in Alberta, Saskatchewan or the Northwest Territories.

The Specialized Assessment requires official documentation indicating courses taken and the number of credits or hours of study. IQAS can’t complete your assessment unless this information is supplied.

Cost :
Application fee: $200, plus $75 for each additional degree or credential
Courier fees :
** to an address in Canada: $15
** to an address outside of Canada: $75

Step 2 : Download the checklist
Use the IQAS Application Checklist to gather all the documents you need for your application. Print and mail the completed checklist with your application.

Gather Your documents

As part of your application package, you’ll need to include :
** original or certified copies of your diploma / degree certificate. This is the document issued after your degree / diploma was awarded.
** original or certified copies of your supporting documents, such as academic transcripts/mark sheets for all years of study

** one set of photocopies of all educational documents
** translation of all educational documents, if they’re not in English. If you don’t have translation, see English translation services for options.

** proof of name (such as a copy of a government issued identity document)
** if your current name is different than the name on the educational documents, also include a proof of name change (such as a copy of a marriage certificate)

** IQAS will return the original documents you send to us, but will maintain all the copies, including certified / notarized copies.
** If you’re providing copies of your documents, you must get them certified by the institution that issued the document, a Notary Public or a Commissioner for Oaths.

Online Application & Fees

** Complete the online application.

While filling in the online form, you’ll be asked to pay the processing fee – payment options include:
** Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Visa Debit, Debit or Interac
** mailing in a cheque, bank draft or money order with your application is also acceptable, but will delay processing

** Once you’ve completed the application form, a final version will be emailed to you.
** After you receive the email, review, print and sign the application form, then mail it with your checklist and all required documents to IQAS (see Step 5).

Mail Your Application

Please note: we don’t accept applications sent by email.

Your application package should include your :
** completed IQAS Application Checklist
** required documents
** signed application
** payment receipt (if paying online) or payment (if using a cheque, bank draft or money order)

Use tracked mail or a courier so you can keep track of your application’s location.

After you Apply

** applications take about 6 weeks to process after all required documents and payments are received
** some applications may take longer to assess if extensive research is required
** times may vary based on the number of applications IQAS receives
** mail delivery time is not calculated in the processing time

Delivery address :
** If your mailing address is in Canada, IQAS will mail your documents to a Canada Post Office near you.

** You’ll receive a Delivery Notice Card from Canada Post letting you know that your package is available for pick up. Canada Post keeps packages for 15 business days. You’ll need to collect your package on time and show proper identification.

** If your mailing address is outside of Canada, your package will be delivered directly to your address.

Change of address :
** If your address changes after you apply, you must send a Change of Address Form to IQAS.

Reassessment / appeal process :
** If you’re not satisfied with your assessment, you may submit a request for reassessment in writing to the IQAS office.

** If you are not satisfied with the outcome of reassessment you can appeal in writing. You’ll need to pay a $75 appeal fee.
** Written requests for reassessment or appeal must be submitted within one year of the original date of assessment.

Processing time

What affects processing time?
** Processing time starts when IQAS receives a mailed application package.
** If an application includes more than one credential to be assessed, it will take at least four weeks longer than average processing times.

** Assessment of some applications takes longer if extensive research is needed.
** On average, an assessment takes about 20 weeks to process once all required documents, transcripts and payments are received. Times are not guaranteed and may change based on the number of applications. IQAS receives a high volume of applications.

** Applications are processed in the order they are received.
** Courier / mail delivery time is not included in the processing time.

  1. I have ACCA and would like to evaluate it. I got certificates for both Diploma and Advanced diploma in Accounting & Business and finally my ACCA certification.
