Change of Use :
Requirements :
** Application letter for the change of use
** Name and address of the vehicle owner

** Chassis number, and
** Engine and registration number of the vehicle

Procedure :
** Present vehicle for inspection by the DVLA
** Payment of the prescribed fee for processing & documentation if approved
** For Taxis, the wings must be painted yellow or red depending on the vehicle’s original colour

** Affix yellow taxi-top light
** The taxi must have the owners address on the two sides

Van To Bus/ Right Hand Drive Steering :
Requirement :
** Present an application for physical conversion containing the following information
** Present request from Customs if right-hand steering

** Name and address of vehicle owner
** Chassis number
** Registration number of the vehicle.

Procedure :
** Present vehicle for inspection.
** Payment of the prescribed fee for processing if approved.

FAQs :
1.I am in Accra, I want to renew my Roadworthy Certificate, where do I go?
All private and commercial vehicles are to visit any of the DVLA certified Private Vehicle Test Station (PVTS) for an inspection and Certification.

2.How do I use the DVLA Online service portal to apply for a service?
At the home page of the DVLA website, Click on Individual or Corporate tab to register as individual or corporate institution;
** Login with your unique username and password
** Apply for a service
** Generate an invoice
** Proceed to your selected DVLA office

3. How do I know the validation dates on my license?
Look at the back of the license, you will find two rectangular boxes labelled; 1st Renewal and 2nd Renewal. The respective validations dates are indicated in boxes.

4. What do I need to bring to the DVLA to validate my license?
Take your driver’s license with you to the nearest DVLA office. You will be required to go through an eye test.

5. I am 17yrs old. Can I apply for a driver’s license?
No. You must be 18yrs and above to qualify to apply for a driver’s license

6. Why do I have to take an eye test to validate my license for two years?
Every license holder is mandated by law to take an eye test before the license is validated.

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) is a public organisation under the Ministry of Transport. It was established in 1999 by an Act of Parliament (Act 569), 1999.

DVLA replaced the Vehicle Examination and Licensing Division (VELD). By the Act, DVLA is to provide a regulated framework for an enhanced and more effective administration of drivers and vehicles.
