Studying In Ghana & Extension Of Stay

Studying Student Visa :
To study in Ghana, the prospective student should first have an offer of admission from a recognized and accredited Institution in Ghana.

Students other than those coming from ECOWAS countries are required to obtain visas or entry permits before proceeding to Ghana.

The following additional requirements will have to be met irrespective of nationality before the issuance of a residence permit :

** Should enter with a valid travel document i.e. (passport, Ecowas Travel Document) and an evidence of admission letter from an accredited institution.

** To have an offer of approved course from an Accredited institution.
** Show proof of exemption or payment of required course fees.
** Should present a guarantee of accommodation.

** Should provide evidence of financial support.
** Should pay the prescribed fees for residence permit.
** Should complete an application form together with four (2) passport size photographs.

Renewal Of Permits :
Students seeking renewal of their residence permits are to provide the following :
** A letter of application from the school.
** A completed application form.
** Four passport size photographs.

Extension Of Stay :
Procedure :
Visitors may abide by the following procedure in their application for extension of stay.
** Completion of the requisite application forms obtained from the Immigration Headquarters or the nearest Regional Commands of the Service.

** Provision of two current passport-sized photographs.
** An application letter from those who wish to stay for a period not exceeding six months stating reason (s) for the request.

** Provision of a valid return ticket or any form of guarantee that the visitor will leave the country at the end of the period requested for.
** Provision of documentary evidence of intent to invest in Ghana (applicable to would-be investors only).

** Provision of a valid passport; and
** The payment of the requisite processing fee.
Please note that employment is restricted while on visitor’s permit.

Travel Documents :
** All persons entering Ghana must be in possession of a valid passport or Travel Document issued by competent national or International authorities recognised by the Government of Ghana.

Entry Visas :
** All foreigners entering Ghana require entry visas with the exception of those listed under Exemptions below. Entry visas may be obtained prior to arrival from a Ghana Embassy, High Commission or Consulate abroad.

** Where Ghana has no Consular or Diplomatic representation, an application for entry visas may be made to the nearest British Diplomatic Mission or Consulate authorized by the Government of Ghana to act on its behalf.

** Entry visa may be issued on arrival if the Director of Immigration has prior notification from travelers or their sponsors. This Entry visa is valid for 14 days within which the prospective traveler should have embarked on the journey.
