** Once the declaration of death has been made and the organ donation conversation has occurred with the family, BC Transplant will be contacted by the hospital staff to check the Registry to verify if the patient registered their decision.

** If a decision is recorded, BC Transplant will print a copy of the registration form and share the information with the family.

FAQ

Why did the decal system change?
The Provincial Organ Donor Registry was created to legally record a person’s decision regarding organ donation. The information in the registry can be accessed by BC Transplant at the time donation is considered. The decal system was more of an honour system, and not an official or legal record.

Who can register their decision?
Everyone is encouraged to register their decision for organ donation. There are no restrictions in terms of age, sexual orientation, previous or current medical conditions, or where you’ve previously lived.
