Applying for a Blue Badge :

You can apply for a Blue Badge by :
** completing the online application form
** downloading an application form and guidance notes

Application fees :
** We charge £10 for a Blue Badge.
** You can pay this online or by cheque.

Renewing your Blue Badge :
** Blue Badge holders must make sure a renewal application is made before the Blue Badge expires.
** Applying for a Blue Badge to be renewed is the same as applying for an initial Blue Badge.
** We suggested your application for renewal is submitted 2 months before the Blue Badge is due to expire.

Proof of your identity and address :
Identity:
** A photocopy of one of the following must be submitted with your application: your birth certificate, marriage/divorce certificate, civil partnership/dissolution certificate, valid driving licence or passport.

Address:
** Proof of address should be in the form of a copy of one of the following a Utility Bill, Council Tax Bill, Doctors Letter/Appointment bearing your name and address.
** The original must be submitted with your application and will be returned at the end of the application process.

Blue Badge Issue Fee : £10
** The Blue Badge Fee is £10 and is not refundable
** Payment will only be taken if your application for a Blue Badge is successful.
** You will only be issued with a Blue Badge once your payment has been received.

Blue Badge misuse :
** We only issue Blue Badges in the name of person who meets the criteria, not their relatives or carers.
** If you misuse your Blue Badge we can fine you up to £1000 or take it away.
** Misuse includes allowing other people to use it or continuing to use it when your disability improves.

Proper use of a Blue Badge :
You must show the Blue Badge :
** on the dashboard
** on the side with the wheelchair symbol and expiry date
** with appropriate times on the clock

Blue Badge disabled parking scheme :
** The Blue Badge disabled parking scheme is for people with severe mobility problems. The scheme allows Blue Badge holders to park close to where they need to go.
** The scheme runs throughout the UK. Only local councils can issue Blue Badges.

Getting a Blue Badge :
** Depending on your circumstances, you may be able to get a Blue Badge without being assessed. Otherwise, you may be eligible subject to further assessment.

Eligible without further assessment :
You can get a Blue Badge without further assessment if you’re more than 2 years-old and :

** get the higher rate of the mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance
** are aged 16 to 64 and have 8 points or more under the ‘moving around’ activity of your Personal independence Payment

** are registered blind
** get a War Pensioner’s Mobility Supplement
** have a lump sum benefit at tariffs 1 to 8 of the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme and have a permanent disability, which leaves you unable to walk

Eligible with further assessment :
You can get a Blue Badge after further assessment if you’re more than 2 years-old and :
** drive a vehicle regularly
** have a severe disability in both arms
** are unable or would find it very difficult to use a parking meter
** have a permanent disability, which leaves you unable to walk
** We may also ask you to attend an independent mobility assessment to confirm your eligibility for a Blue Badge.

Other Eligibilities :
Children under 3 may be eligible for a Blue Badge if they :
** must always be with bulky medical equipment because of a condition
** must always be near a vehicle so they can be treated or taken quickly to a place to be treated

Blue Badges for organisations :
** An organisation can get a Blue Badge for a vehicle used to carry disabled people who are entitled to Blue Badges.
** To be eligible, organisations must care for and transport disabled people who are entitled to Blue Badges.
