Apply For Free Bus Pass :

1. Free bus travel for older people :
** If you live in Warwickshire and were born, on or before 5 April 1953 you are eligible for a concessionary bus pass.

** If you were born after 5 April 1953, check the age at which you become eligible by using the older person’s concessionary bus pass eligibility checker which will tell you when you will become eligible for a bus pass.

How to apply :
** The earliest you can apply for a bus pass is one month before you become eligible.
** To apply you will need to provide documents proving your age and your address.

Accepted documents :

Date of birth Address
Driving licence Driving licence
Passport Council Tax bill – current tax year
EU National Identity Card Gas or electricity bill – less than three months old
Optical or medical prescription Landline telephone bill – less than three months old
Birth certificate in current name Water bill – less than three months old
Birth certificate in previous name, plus proof of name change Official receipt for rent, or tenancy agreement – less than three months old
NHS medical card

** We do not except bank statements.
** This evidence must be your residential address.
** We cannot accept a postal-only, or a business addresses.
** Please contact us if you cannot provide one of the above.
** If you are eligible you will receive your bus pass in two weeks of your application.
** There is no charge for a bus pass when you apply for the first time.

In person :
** You can visit one of our one stop shops to complete your application in person.
** You do not need to complete a form if you are applying in person.
** The application will be completed during your visit by the customer service advisor and a photograph will be taken of you whilst you are there.
** You will need to bring documents proving your age and your address (table above).

By post :
** If you are unable to apply in person, you can apply by post by completing the application form.

2. Free bus travel for disabled people :
** If you live in Warwickshire and have a qualifying disability which is long term, meaning it lasts 12 months or more, you are entitled to a concessionary bus pass.
** Children over the age of five who have a qualifying disability will also be eligible.
** In Warwickshire, anyone who holds a Blue Badge (Disabled Parking Badge) is automatically considered eligible.

Disabilities which may qualify someone for bus pass are :
** Blind or partially sighted (able to register as sight impaired or severely sight impaired)
** Profoundly or severely deaf (hearing level at 70dBHL or worse in both ears)
** Without speech
** Has a disability, or has suffered an injury, which has a substantial and long term adverse effect on ability to walk
** No arms, or no use of both arms
** Learning disability – significant impairment of intelligence and social functioning
** Would be refused a driving licence (other than because of the misuse of alcohol or drugs)

3. Free bus pass – using the bus pass :
** The bus pass can be used across England on local bus services. In Warwickshire, this includes the Flexibus.

If your bus pass was issued by Warwickshire County Council you can travel :
** From 9.00am and up until midnight if you journey starts in Warwickshire
** From 9.30am until 11pm on weekdays anywhere else in England
** All day at weekends and on bank holidays anywhere in England.
** The bus pass is for your own personal use, it cannot be used by any other person.
** If the pass is fraudulently used, it will be withdrawn and the holder may be prosecuted.
** The bus pass is not valid on bus services outside England, coaches including long distance or tourist coaches, trams or the London Underground.

** Please carry your bus pass with you.
** If you are unable to present a valid bus pass, you will not be able to travel free and you will be expected to pay the full fare for your journey.
** All the bus passes are now smartcards.
** They are the size of a credit card, made of plastic containing a microchip and antenna which can store information electronically.

** Most buses will have a smartcard reader. Instead of having to show the driver your bus pass, you simply swipe your bus pass through or across the reader.
** On older buses you will need show the driver your bus pass.
** The bus company does not need to know how far you are travelling because they are paid a fixed amount per journey regardless of whether you travel just one stop, or whether you stay on the bus for many miles.
** On the older ticket machines you may be issued a ticket which has the wrong destination printed on it.
** This does not mean that the bus operators will be paid too much.
