Applying for certificates :
Making an application :
** You can complete an application form available from any Register Office, or send a letter giving the details, or download one of the application forms for a copy certificate and print it off and send to us.

** Please include a self-addressed envelope. If the entry is traced, the information can only be supplied in the form of a copy certificate for which a fee is charged so applications should be accompanied with a fee (cheques/postal orders payable to Coventry City Council).

** If the entry is not found a full refund is made. It is also possible to pay for certificates by credit or debit card over the telephone once an entry is found. You can phone the information about the certificate you require to us and we will ring you back for your card details once we have located it for you.

Certificates :
** Copies of birth certificates
** Copies of marriage certificates
** Copies of death certificates

How to get a copy of a birth certificate :
** If you want to get a copy of a certificate for a birth that was registered in Coventry you can apply by post, telephone or in person.
** Certificates are usually produced within five working days of making the application.
** For an extra fee we offer a priority service where certificates can be issued within 24 hours of ordering.
** Telephone applications need a card payment. Please have these details ready when calling.
** The certificate(s) will be posted within five working days.
** You should allow at least 10 working days for the return of a certificate by post unless you have paid extra for priority ordering.

Certificate costs :
** Certificates issued at the time of registration cost £4.
** Later applications while the register is with the registrar cost £7.
** Once the register is full it is transferred to the archives for storage.

The certificate is then issued at the following prices :
** Standard Copy Certificate of birth, death or marriage (gives full details of register entry) – £10.
** Short Copy Certificate of birth (will not provide details of parents) – £10.
** A Copy Certificate is a certified copy of the original entry in the register, signed by either the Registrar or Superintendent Registrar and is a legal document that can be used for official purposes.
** All certificates take five working days to be produced.
** These can then be collected in person or sent by post.
** Please note that all certificates that we post to you have a £1 postal fee unless a stamped addressed envelope is included in the application.

** If you want to get a copy of a certificate for a marriage or civil partnership that was registered in Coventry you can apply by post, telephone or in person.
** Certificates are usually produced within five working days.
** Telephone applications need a card payment. Please have these details ready when calling.
** The certificate(s) will be posted within five working days.
** You should allow at least ten working days for the return of a certificate by post.

What information do we need?
You will need to provide the following information :
** The name or names the certificate applies to
** The date of the event
** The place of the event
** Any other relevant information that may help us locate the certificate

If applying by post you will also need to include :
** A return stamped addressed envelope.
** Payment in the form of a cheque or postal order made payable to Coventry City Council..

If applying in person at the Register Office :
** Payment can be made by cash, cheque or credit/debit card.
** Certificates are usually ready for collection five working days after ordering, or they can be posted to you.
** Posting could add up to an additional five days from collection date and costs an extra £1.
** A 24 hour priority service is available for an additional £15.
