Applying for Passport Renewal :

** If your passport has expired or is about to expire, we strongly recommend you act now to renew your passport.
** You must make an appointment.

** Every American should have valid proof of his or her citizenship at all times, as well as a valid travel document, in case emergency travel is required.

** Americans who have obtained a new passport from the U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu must have their valid Nepali visa transferred from their previous passport to the new passport through the Government of Nepal Department of Immigration in Kathmandu.

** For more information about Nepalese immigration rules and regulations, please refer to the Government of Nepal’s Department of Immigration website.

Please look at the below conditions and follow the instructions that are appropriate for your situation :
** If you are 18 years old or older, and you have an undamaged passport you can submit with your passport, and your passport was issued within the last 15 years and on/after your 16th birthday, and your passport was issued under the same name or you can legally document your name change, please bring to the Consular Section of the Embassy

** Completed but unsigned passport application form DS-82;
** Your most recent U.S. passport;
** Documentary proof of name change, if applicable;

One passport photograph :
** The Embassy will reject any photographs that do not meet the specified requirements.

Your foreign (non-U.S.) naturalization certificate :
** If you have acquired another nationality through naturalization or registration since the issuance of your most recent U.S. passport;
** $110 passport application fee (to be paid in cash in U.S. dollars or Nepalese rupee).

If you are 18 years or older, and your most recent passport was issued more than 15 years ago OR before your 16th birthday (and within last 15 years), and you are able to submit your passport with your application, please bring to the Consular Section of the Embassy

** Completed but unsigned passport application form DS-11;
** Your most recent U.S. passport;

Proof of identity :
** valid passport of any country; or
** valid driver’s license with photograph; or
** national identity card with photograph; or
** valid U.S. or State government ID card; or
** U.S. military card; or

Identifying witness :
** If you are unable to present photo identification as specified above, you should bring a relative or friend (preferably a family member) who has known you for more than two years and who is able to submit a sworn statement confirming your identity.
** Any foreign passport that you may currently hold, have held, or have been included in;

Your foreign (non-U.S.) naturalization certificate :
** If you have acquired another nationality through naturalization or registration since the issuance of your most recent U.S. passport;

If you are at least 16 years old but have not yet turned 18, and you are able to submit your most recent passport with your application, please bring to the Consular Section of the Embassy
** Completed but unsigned passport application form DS-11;
** Your most recent U.S. passport;
** One of your parents (or a legal guardian) and his/her valid U.S. or foreign passport;
** Any foreign passport that you may currently hold, have held, or have been included in;
** Documentary proof of name change, if applicable;

One passport photograph :
** The Embassy will reject any photographs that do not meet the specified requirements.
** $135 passport application fee (to be paid in U.S. dollars or Nepalese rupee).

If you are under the age of 16, and you are able to submit your most recent passport with your application, please bring to the Consular Section of the Embassy –
** Completed but unsigned passport application form DS-11.

** Your most recent U.S. passport (children whose passports were issued when they were younger than five years old should present photos showing age progression from the time of their last passport issuance until the present) and any foreign passport(s) you may have.

One passport photograph :
** The Embassy will reject any photographs that do not meet thespecified requirements.
** $105 passport application fee (to be paid in cash in U.S. dollars or Nepalese rupee).

Two Parent Consent :
** All children under the age of 16 are required to appear at the Embassy with both parents for all passport services, who must submit with their child’s application
** Parents’ photo identification: Parents accompanying their child to the Embassy must submit their valid U.S. or foreign passport.
** These will be returned at the time of the appointment.

Proof of parental relationship :
** Certified U.S. state birth certificate (either vital statistics or Department of Health) with parents’ names; or
** Certified foreign birth certificate (with parents’ names and translation, if necessary); or
** Consular Report of Birth Abroad (Form FS-240) (with parents’ names); or
** Certificate of Birth Abroad (Form DS-1350) (with parents’ names); or
** Adoption decree (with adopting parents’ names) together with amended U.S. state birth certificate listing adoptive parents names; or
** Court Order establishing custody or guardianship.

Application by One Parent :
** Valid U.S. or foreign passport; or
** Valid driver’s license; or
** Valid military ID; or
** Valid U.S. government ID; or
** Certificate of Naturalization or Citizenship from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services with photograph; or
** Alien Resident Card from USCIS (Green Card) or

Evidence of the appearing parent’s sole authority for the passport, in one of the following forms :
** Consular Report of Birth Abroad (Form FS-240) or Certification of Birth Abroad (Form DS-1350) listing only applying parent; or
** Child’s birth certificate listing only the applying parent; or
** Adoption decree (if applying parent is sole adopting parent); or
** Court order granting sole custody to the applying parent (child’s travel must not be restricted by that order); or
** Judicial declaration of incompetence of non-applying parent; or
** Death certificate of non-applying parent.
