Apply for School Card :

The School Card scheme offers financial assistance with educational expenses for students attending government schools including :
** school fees (materials and service charges)
** uniforms

** camps and excursions.
** For students at non-government schools, parents are encouraged to speak directly to the school about financial assistance.

Eligibility :
School Card is available to :
** families with children aged four years and over who attend a school full-time
** independent full time years 10 or 11 students who are studying six subjects
** independent full time year 12 students who are studying five subjects
** adult re-entry students undertaking DECD funded subjects at a government school.
** Family income limits apply, see the range of income limits and what counts as income.

What you will need :
** You will need to provide proof of income – eg payslips or Centrelink information.

How to apply :
** Applicants need to complete an application form at the beginning of each year. Forms can be submitted from the start of January.

1. Application form :
** There are different forms for different circumstances. Use the form that best matches your situation.
** View application forms
** If you need help completing the form, talk to your school or phone the School Card section on 1800 672 758 (free call).

2. Supporting evidence :
** The form tells you what documentation you need to provide. Make sure you attach copies of all the documentation required – eg proof of income.

3. Lodge the form :
** Submit the completed application form and supporting documents at your school or to the School Card section as per the advice on the form.
** Applications for the 2016 School Card Scheme close 25 November 2016.
** If you have children attending different schools, each school will need a copy of the form and attachments.

What is included as income?
Income that’s included as part of gross family income when establishing eligibility for the School Card includes :
** gross salaries, wages and allowances from an employer/s
** taxable Centrelink pensions, benefits and allowances
** non-taxable or tax-exempt pensions, benefits and allowances – eg Disability Support Pension
** gross interest and dividends
** benefits from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs
** supplementary income identified in the supplementary tax return
** fringe benefits – eg provision of a car, entertainment expenses
** foreign income, including pensions and employment
** self-employment – income from a business or partnership.

Gross family income does not include any amounts received for :
** family tax benefits parts A and B
** child maintenance payments
** totally and permanently incapacitated (TPI) component of veteran’s affairs benefits
** carer allowance.
