Residential Support Scheme :
Overview :
** You may be able to get help with the cost of term-time accommodation if you need to study away from home for a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification (equivalent to GCSEs and A levels).

** You may qualify if this is the first time you’ve studied for a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification and your course is too far away to travel to daily.
** How much you get depends on your household income.
What you’ll get :
You can get up to the following amounts each year –

| £25,705 to £30,993 | Up to £1,152 | Up to £1,355 |

** The actual amount you get depends on your accommodation costs.
** You can get payments for a maximum of 3 years.
Residential Bursary Fund :
** You may be able to get a bursary towards the cost of accommodation from some specialist residential colleges instead of the Residential Support Scheme.
** Most of these colleges are ‘Specialist Residential Centres’ for subjects like agriculture, art and design or horticulture.
** Each specialist college has its own eligibility criteria, which often include parental income.
** Contact the college directly to apply.
Eligibility :
You can get help from the Residential Support Scheme (RSS) if:
** you’re between 16 and 18 on 31 August 2015
** your course starts before you turn 19
** you meet the residency requirements (this will be checked by your college)
** you’re not studying at a college offering a residential bursary
** your course is not available closer to your home
** you’re not on housing benefit
** your household income is less than £30,993
** your course is at a college in England (but not a specialist Residential Bursary Fund institution)
Your course must be one of the following :
** more than 15 miles from your home
** more than a 2 hour return journey
Your course must also :
** be a full time course
** be for your first Level 2 or Level 3 qualification (equivalent to GCSEs or A levels)
** be 16-19 funded (your learning provider will be able to confirm this)
** not be one of the specialist colleges listed in the RSS application guidance notes
How to claim :
** Contact the student support officer at your college for an application form and help with applying.
When to apply :
** Apply once you know where you’ll study or train, so you’ll get your bursary as soon as possible.
** You might need to reapply for a bursary for each year of your course. Check with your provider.
