VNPF Special Death Benefit Scheme

In the event of the death of a member, the money lying to the credit of the member together with applicable Special Death Benefit will be paid to the member’s beneficiaries;

That is the person or persons whom the member nominated on the nominee form, which the member completed together with the application to become a member of the Fund.

In the case where a member is not married the VNPF Act permits the member to nominate any person whom he chooses. However in cases where the member is married the VNPF Act permits the member to nominate the following persons :
In the case of a man :
(a) his wife
(b) his children
(c) his dependant parents
(d) his deceased Son’s widow and children.

In the case of a woman :
(a) her husband and his dependant parent
(b) her children
(c) her dependant parents
(d) her deceased Son’s widow and children.

Benefits to Members :
Four different types of benefits are paid depending on the circumstance.
** Retirement
** Invalidity retirement
** Emigrating from Vanuatu
** Death

There are special conditions that must be satisfied before the benefits can be withdrawn under any of the four categories. A Withdrawal Form (available at VNPFB offices) must be completed and submitted to the VNPFB Office along with the required documents.

Withdrawal of Contributions :
Members of the Fund are entitled to withdraw their contribution savings from the Fund on the following occasions :
(a) member has reached the age of 55 years
(b) member dies
(c) a member has become permanently physically or mentally incapable of working.
(d) A member is about to leave Vanuatu with no intention of returning.

When eligible to withdraw the amounts lying to the credit of members account, the member needs to obtain a Withdrawal Form from the VNPF Office (Port Vila or Luganville).

Enquiries Officers will provide the member with the necessary forms depending upon what grounds the member is seeking to withdraw the contributions savings.

The Withdrawal application must have evidence to support the grounds upon which the member seek to withdraw the contribution savings.

The various grounds for withdrawal of contributions and the information required are set out below :
Ground 1 – Retirement (on reaching the age of 55 years)
(a) Copy of birth certificate

Ground 2 – Invalidity (Medical)
(a) A medical report supporting the specific ailment that has rendered the member incapable of working.

Ground 3 – Death
(a) Death certificate of the deceased member
(b) Birth certificate of the deceased member

(c) Birth certificate of nominees
(d) If the nominee is a minor, a Letter of administration from the Court for the estate of the deceased member.

Ground 4 – Permanently leaving Vanuatu
(a) Letter from the Employer certifying that the employee is leaving Vanuatu or a copy of the contract with the Public Service Commission.
(b) Original residence permit for overseas employees

(c) Ni-Vanuatu employee permanently leaving Vanuatu must provide evidence of citizenship of the country of immigration.
(d) Copy of airline itinerary.

The VNPF Board will then calculate and pay the benefits due. Provided all the necessary documentation is complete and correct in respect of the grounds under which withdrawal application was made and the application form provided by the VNPFB is properly completed with all questions answered, the Board will make every endeavor to pay the benefits within 10 working days of lodging the application.
