The Government Assistance for Tuition Expenses Programme (GATE) is managed by the Funding and Grants Administration Division (FGAD) of the Ministry of Tertiary Education and Skills Training (MTEST) in keeping with Government’s philosophy for developing human capital and entrepreneurship and for permitting access to education for all.

Now with GATE e-Service, student will be able to access GATE Programme through online application submission anytime and anywhere. Students will be able to manage their applications as well as enquire for the current status of the application submitted. Students will be notified of the application status update by email notification sent by GATE e-Service.

You can apply for GATE funding if:
** You are a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago and stay in Trinidad and Tobago for at least 3 years (Documentary proof of citizenship and residency must be provided).
** You have been accepted to a GATE-approved local or regional public Tertiary Level Institutions (TLI) as well as local private TLIs.
** You are enrolled in a GATE-approved programme of study that leads to a recognised tertiary level qualification.

Important Note for Applying GATE:
Please prepare the following documentation in softcopy for submitting application:
** Birth Certificate
** National ID Card / Passport
** Payment Slip (for post-graduate student)
** Marriage/Divorce Certificate (for married/divorced student)
** Latest Result Slip / Transcript (for continuing student)
** Deed Poll (for name change)
** Acceptance Letter from Institution (for student pursuing new programme)

Note:
** Each file must not exceed 3MB.
** Supported file type: PNG, JPG, JPEG, GIF, BMP, TIF, TIFF, PDF, DOC, DOCX AND TXT.
** The application process will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete.

What is GATE Programme?
The GATE Programme provides financial assistance to citizens of Trinidad and Tobago, who are pursuing approved programmes at public and private tertiary level institutions (local and regional). The GATE Programme is managed by the Funding and Grants Administration Division of the Ministry of Education (MOE).

Can I apply for GATE funding?
In order to access funding under the GATE Programme a student must be :
** A citizen of Trinidad and Tobago with a continued period of residency of at least three (3) years prior to application; and
** Under the age of fifty (50).

How much funding can I receive under the GATE Programme?
** Students enrolled in non-medical programmes at regional campuses of the UWI, which are offered at the UWI, St. Augustine campus, will only be funded the equivalent level of funding that obtains at the St. Augustine campus.
** Students will not be granted funding in excess of the agreed tuition fee for each programme.

** Students will only be eligible for one (1) undergraduate and one (1) postgraduate programme.
** A cost-sharing model using means testing is used to determine the amount of funding for which students are eligible.
