What is Cayman Islands Public Library Service?

The Cayman Islands Public Library Service (CIPLS) is a government-funded department under the Ministry of Education that operates a network of public libraries across Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac.

How To Search Public Library & eBooks?

Your online catalog makes searching easy, displays items on the homepage for you to browse, provides access to your personal account, and more. This topic defines the basic navigation. For more information, look in the table of contents on the left or use the search field in the upper right.

** Click the menu icon to find library news and hours, trending items, book lists, access to the children’s interface, and more based on what your library offers.
** Click the home icon to return to the landing page at any time.
** Click the person icon to access your account.
** Search for library materials at any time. Simply enter a term, or click Keyword to choose a different search type from the drop-down list.

Search:
1. A field displays at the top of every page so you can look for items at any time. Enter your search term; if needed, click Keyword to open a drop-down list, and select a different search type (Title, Author, Subject, Series, etc.).

2. Once you find results, you will see several options for sorting/filtering those items.

3. Media types may display under the search field so you can narrow the list to a specific format. Depending on your library’s setup, you may see a few unique tabs:
** eBooks – If your library offers electronic books, click this tab to view subtabs: Catalog shows items in your library’s collection that have linked eBooks, while third-party tabs, such as OverDrive and Hoopla, show titles available from those providers.
** Study Programs – If your library subscribes to study programs, click this tab (may display as a program name) to filter for items with associated information; you will also see the reading level, points, etc. listed for each item. If applicable, you may see subtabs allowing you to select a specific program.
** Community – Click this tab to view local events and groups related to your seadrch term as applicable.

4. The current sort displays above results. Click the underlined word to open a drop-down list and select another option if needed.

5. Depending on your library’s setup, you may see facets which allow you to reorganize your results into topics, books by the same author, or items in a series. Otherwise, you may be able to search by a specific author, subject, or series.

6. Basic filters are listed in the right sidebar; you can narrow results by age level, material type, location, etc. Otherwise, click Advanced at the top to enter more specific criteria.

Results :
Search results display the item’s title, author, format, summary, availability, Call Number, etc. as well as action buttons at the bottom. You can select an item to view tabs and additional information or to open complete details.

Tabs View:
Click the title/summary area to view tabs across the top (other results continue to display in the list).

The Info tab shows the same basic information along with the age level and series if applicable. Click any of the following as needed:
** Copies – View individual copies along with their location and availability.
** Similar – View associated authors, subjects, and series title (if applicable) along with carousels of matching library items. Click Explore (topics) or More From (authors/series) to open a topic page.
** Reviews – View feedback from your librarians or other users.
** More – Open complete details (see next section).

The following action buttons display at the bottom of each result:
** Reserve – Place a hold for this item.
** Save For Later – Add this item to a book list.
** Notify – Select a subject, author, or series to watch (follow). This means you will be notified any time the library acquires new items that match this term.
** View Citations – See MLA, APA, and Chicago style citations for this item.

Details View:
Click a dust jacket or the More tab in search results to open complete details.

The Overview tab displays basic information, topics, and a summary (when available). Click other tabs to find more related information.
** Copies – View a list of all copies with their location and availability.
** Bibliographic Info – View the ISBN, publication/copyright data, physical description, etc.
** Similar – View associated authors, subjects, and series title (if applicable) along with carousels of matching library items. Click Explore (topics) or More From (authors/series) to open a topic page.
** Reviews – View feedback from your librarians and other users.
** Media – View related documents or image files as applicable.
** Snapshot – If your library subscribes to enriched content, view more reviews, summaries, excerpts, author bios, and more.

Click a chip or the series information link (as applicable) to open a related topic page with more information and additional items to browse.

The following action buttons display beneath the dust jacket:
** Reserve – Place a hold for this item.
** Save For Later – Add this item to a book list.
** Notify – Select a subject, author, or series to watch (follow). This means you will be notified any time the library acquires new items that match this term.
** View Citations – See MLA, APA, and Chicago style citations for this item.
