There are two main ways to apply for a student loan for tertiary education in Bhutan:

Government Loan Scheme:
This is administered by the Department of Adult and Higher Education (DAHE) http://www.dahe.gov.bt/. It targets economically disadvantaged students.

Here’s how to apply for the government loan scheme:
** Online Application: Apply through the Citizen Services portal https://www.citizenservices.gov.bt/SLS/pages/ns/user_instruction.jsp. You’ll need to create an account if you don’t have one already.
** Required Documents: The application form likely asks for your academic transcripts, admission letter, citizenship ID, and proof of your financial situation (parents’ income etc.).
** Selection Process: DAHE verifies and shortlists applications. They’ll notify you via SMS or email if your application is successful.
** Commercial Bank Loan: Banks in Bhutan like Bhutan National Bank and Bank of Bhutan also offer education loans https://bnb.bt/standard-education-loan/ https://www.bob.bt/personal-banking/loans-personal/education-loan/.

For a commercial bank loan, the process typically involves:
Contacting the Bank: Reach out to the bank you prefer to inquire about their education loan options and requirements.

Loan Application: Fill out the bank’s application form and submit the required documents, which may include similar documents as the government scheme along with proof of income (if employed) and collateral.

Bank Approval: The bank will assess your application and determine your eligibility and loan terms.
