Who qualifies to have a birth certificate :
Anyone born in Botswana qualifies for a birth certificate.

How much does it cost to apply for a birth certificate :
Where birth is registered within the prescribed time (within 60 days of its occurrence), a certificate is issued for free. Any registration done after that period attracts a levy of for every month of defaulting, up to a maximum of P100.00

How do I apply for a birth certificate when I have a naturalised citizenship :
A birth certificate is issued only to people born in Botswana. Foreign natoinals born in Botswana have 7 birth registration digit numbers while Batswana have 9 birth registration digit numbers.

NB : If your parents or guardian have a naturalized citizenship and you are born in Botswana, you qualify for a Motswana birth certificate with 9 certificate numbers.

How long does it take to get a birth certificate :
Upon receipt of a report of a birth the registrar shall issue a birth certificate then.

Can one send someone else to collect him/her birth certificate :
Only a mother father or guardian can collect a birth certificate of his/her child. Also someone with legal identity/passport can collect his or her own birth certificate.

How do I register for birth certificate :
It is a mandatory to report a birth within 60 days of its occurrence. Such a report should be made by the parent/guardian of every child born alive and should be accompanied by a notice of birth from the doctor (form CRB-2), or Kgosi to the registrar if birth occurred at home.
