FANR Import/ Export Permit for Regulated Materials

In accordance with Federal Law by Decree No 6 of 2009, Concerning the Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy and licence condition No. 6 on additional authorisation required from FANR, “The Licensee shall obtain a permit from the Authority prior to each import/export of Regulated Material generally authorised by the Licence”.

The Import/Export Permit Form can be submitted to FANR for approval by either the licensee, or by the local supplier holding a purchase order from the end user.

The permit is valid for 30 days. In order to validate the permit for longer than 30 days, you should submit only the revised application form and the supporting documents where required.

Required Documents

For an Import Permit please provide :
** Air Way Bill or Bill of Lading and Packing List
** Sealed source certificate from the manufacturer for each radionuclide
** Certificate of origin for the regulated material
** Invoice for the regulated material
** Certificate and details for each piece of equipment (where equipment containing regulated material is imported)
** Technical specification for radiation generators (where x-ray machines/ scanners are imported)

How To Apply

Simply follow the steps below to apply
​ 1. Download the form: Import/ Export Permit for Regulated Materials (Radiation sources)
2. Fill in the form and sign it
3. Submit the form with supporting documents either in person or via the link above
4. Alternatively email the form to the following address: fanr.licensing [AT] fanr.gov.ae

For an Export Permit please provide :
** Air Way Bill or Bill of Lading and Packing List
** Sealed source certificate for each radionuclide or copy of the issued import permit
** Invoice for the regulated material
** Certificate and details for each piece of equipment or copy of the issued import permit
** Technical specification for radiation generators (e.g. x-ray machines) or copy of the issued import permit
** Copy of authorisation of import from the nuclear regulatory authority in the recipient country (where export is to an entity other than a manufacturer)

Fees Information

There are no fees applicable at present, but this is subject to change.

Time Frame

Permits are generally issued within three working days if all supporting documents are in order. Once approved, the permit can be collected from FANR’s Radiation Safety Department at FANR’s headquarters.
