Claiming Over payment Refunds

In order to get a refund on over payments, the Employer should properly fill “Form-Q” and submit it to the nearest Labour Office. After proper investigation and verification, action will be taken to refund the over paid amount.

Nominating Beneficiaries

A beneficiary can be nominated at the very moment of registering with the EPF. “Form-H” is used to nominate one or several beneficiaries given that the nominator provides sufficient details regarding the share each nominee is entitled to.

** An unmarried person may nominate any one
** A married person may nominate family members including spouse, children, parents, brothers and sisters etc.

Re-nominating Beneficiaries :
It is possible to cancel an existing nomination and re-nominate beneficiaries at any given time. “Form-J” should be used and the duly filled form should be sent to the Labour Office of the area where you live.

A nomination can be cancelled at any given time. “Form-I” should be used and the duly filled form should be sent to the Labour Office of the area where you live.

** A nomination effected before marriage is automatically cancelled upon marriage.
** When a member dies without nominating a heir the benefits will be paid according to a court order under the Inheritance of Property Act.

** When a minor is nominated, a guardian may be appointed and will be paid benefits. When the minor attains maturity the guardian’s nomination is automatically cancelled.

The Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) was established under the Act No. 15 of 1958. It is the largest Social Security Scheme in Sri Lanka. The Employees’ Provident Fund division was established in 1959 to facilitate administration of the Employees’ Provident Fund Scheme (EPF) that came into operation consequent to the enactment of Employees Provident Fund Act No.15 OF 1958.

Additional Simplified Procedure

There are 3 ways to check EPF claim status online in Sri Lanka:

1. Through the EPF website:
** Go to the EPF website: https://epf.lk/.
** Click on the “Members” tab.
** Click on the “View Claim Status” link.
** Enter your EPF number and password.
** Click on the “Submit” button.
** Your claim status will be displayed on the screen.

2. Through the EPF mobile app:
** The EPF mobile app is available for download on both Android and iOS devices.
** Once you have downloaded the app, open it and log in with your EPF number and password.
** Click on the “Claims” tab.
** Click on the “View Claim Status” link.
** Your claim status will be displayed on the screen.

3. Through SMS:
Send an SMS to 1919 with the following format:
EPF CLAIM <EPF number>
For example, to check the claim status for EPF number 123456789, you would send the following SMS:
EPF CLAIM 123456789
You will receive an SMS with the status of your claim.
