Please note :
** Due to the space available, you are strictly only permitted to bring one guest.
** Any extra guests will not be able to attend the ceremony.
** If you are a married couple you will need to book individually

What you need to know :
** You can only book a citizenship ceremony if you have received confirmation from the Home Office Nationality Group that your application for British Citizenship has been approved.

How to get British Citizenship :
** You must book a ceremony within three months of the date of your letter of confirmation.
** After this date you will need to re-apply for citizenship.
** You should have the invitation letter received from the Home Office confirming your Citizenship to hand when booking this appointment.
** There is no additional charge to attend a Group Citizenship Ceremony.
** However, you may choose to have a Private Ceremony for you and your guests to celebrate this special event in the privacy of a specially prepared ceremony rooms, surrounded by your guests.
** There will be an additional charge for this ceremony and payment will have to be made at the time of the booking.
** Fees for private ceremonies are £135 for one person and £270 per couple.
** There is no charge for minors.

1. Citizenship test :
** To settle in the UK or gain British citizenship, you will have to take the Life in the UK Test.

3. Citizenship ceremonies :
** We hold regular citizenship ceremonies at the Redfearn Centre in Vauxhall.
** This is an opportunity for applicants to celebrate their new citizenship and for us to celebrate the borough’s cultural diversity.
** We ensure that the ceremonies are enjoyable and meaningful, creating a friendly environment for new citizens.
** It is hoped that the ceremonies will encourage new citizens to play an active part in the community.

The ceremony :
** The ceremony is held as a group although it is possible to arrange for a private ceremony for a fee.

During the ceremony you are required to :
** take either the Oath or Affirmation
** say the pledge of loyalty to the UK.
** A Lambeth dignitary (usually the mayor) will present you with a Lambeth ‘New Citizen’ badge.
** You will also receive a pack from the Home Office, along with your passport application form.

What I need to bring to the ceremony :
** When you attend a ceremony you need to bring your Home Office invitation letter and a form of photo identification with you (a passport or driver’s licence).

Oath/Affirmation and pledge :
** If you decide to take an Oath you will be swearing to God. An Affirmation does not have any religious context.

Example of Oath :
** I (name) swear by almighty God that on becoming a British citizen
** I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, her heirs and successors according to law.

Example of Affirmation :
** I (name) do solemnly, sincerely and truly declare and affirm that on becoming a British citizen
** I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, her heirs and successors according to law.

Example of Pledge :
** I will give my loyalty to the United Kingdom and respect its rights and freedoms. I will uphold its democratic values.
** I will observe its laws faithfully and fulfill my duties and obligations as a British citizen.
