How To Order a Birth Certificate :
** The Office of Vital Records issues birth and death certificates. Birth records are confidential and available only to the person named on the record, immediate family, or legal representatives with appropriate documentation.

** Current government-issued photo identification is required for all requests.
There are four ways to get a certificate:
** Online – Receive in 1 to 5 business days
** Phone – Receive in 1 – 5 business days
By mail – Receive in 2 to 3 weeks
** Walk-in – Receive in 15 minutes.
** Note that our office is usually busiest between 11 am – 2 pm. Customers should expect longer wait times during those hours.

Cost :
** Birth Certificates cost $23 for each copy, with additional processing and shipping fees for internet orders and phone orders.
Information Required :
** The name on the record being requested.
** Date of birth
** Father’s full name.
** Mother’s full maiden name.
** Name of the county and city where the birth occurred.
** Requestor’s name, address, and daytime telephone number.
** Requestor’s relationship with the person whose record is being requested.
** An explanation of why the certificate is needed.
** Requestor’s signature.
** Current government-issued identification of the requestor
Types of Birth Certificates :
Long/Baby Form :
** Available for births within the City of Austin only from 1940 to 1956 and 1961 to present.
** This certificate contains personal information so is not recommended for day-to-day business.
** It is recommended for personal records, immigration, dual citizenship, paternity issues, and passports.
Security Size:
** Available for all births in Texas.
** It contains less personal information and is recommended for day-to-day business such as driver’s licenses, employment, school, insurance, and U.S. travel.
Getting Birth Certificate :
Walk In : Receive in 15 minutes
** Come to the Office of Vital Records, located at 7201 Levander Loop, Building C (off the corner of Airport Blvd. and Hwy. 183 at the northeast corner of the Montopolis bridge on the Betty Dunkerley campus), Austin, TX, 78702.
** The office is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The last application is accepted until 4:15 p.m.
** Our office is usually busiest between 11 am – 2 pm. Customers should expect longer wait times during those hours.
** Current government-issued photo identification is required.
** For faster service, download and print an application in English or Spanish.

** Order processing takes about 1 business day for approved requests plus UPS delivery within 2 business days.
** If your identity cannot be verified online, you will be instructed to provide a copy of your current government-issued identification and proof of shipping address before your application can be processed. This will delay the processing and delivery time.
