Honda Updates Recall To 30,520 Inflators In New Zealand For Possible Airbag Fault

Honda New Zealand has announced a new total recall number of 30,520 inflators, affecting New Zealand-new Honda Civic, Jazz, Accord Euro, CR-V, Insight, and City for a possible fault with the driver or front seat passenger airbags.
The recall is due to the potential abnormal deployment of the airbags and expands on earlier recalls already carried out on Takata supplied airbags.
The recall is a small part of a worldwide recall of Hondas fitted with airbags from outside supplier Takata.
The vehicles specifically affected by the Driver and/or Front Passenger Airbag Recall in New Zealand are:
Civic model years between 2003 – 2005 Total 582 inflators
Jazz model years between 2004 – 2012 Total 14,960 inflators
Accord Euro model years between 2004 – 2009 Total 6,722 inflators
CR-V model years between 2002 & 2004 – 2011 Total 7,157 inflators
Insight model years between 2010 – 2012 Total 680 inflators
City model years between 2009 – 2011 Total 419 inflators
From the models listed above a limited number will have both the driver and front seat passenger airbags recalled.

Bryan Davis, Honda National Service Manager, advises “The driver and front seat passenger airbag inflators of all affected vehicles will be replaced with a new part as a precautionary measure. Honda New Zealand has not received any reports of incidents in New Zealand where airbags in vehicles affected by the recall might have deployed abnormally.”
Owners of the affected vehicles, who have been identified through registration data, will be contacted by Honda New Zealand.
Honda New Zealand is investigating second- hand, Japanese Used imported Honda vehicles that might also be affected by this recall. Owners of affected vehicles, who can be identified through registration data, will be contacted by Honda New Zealand.
Note :
Honda strongly encourages vehicle owners to confirm that any replacement airbag module used to repair their vehicle is purchased directly from an authorised Honda dealer. Under no circumstances should second hand (used) parts be used when replacing (SRS) airbag assemblies.
