Responsibilities of the Urban Planning Department :
The Urban Planning Department, is responsible for the following :
1. Development of urban development strategy.
2. Preparation of planning studies and master plans.

3. Preparation of urban, structural and general plans, pertinent to the cities, urban and rural communities and, villages.

4. Preparation of detailed studies and projects for the urban areas, neighborhoods and communities.
5. Preparation of planning criteria and regulations for all planning patterns of the land uses, in coordination with the concerned authorities.

6. Zoning to be acquired for the public interest, in accordance with the urban plans prepared by the Department of Land acquisition.
7. Establishment of integrated database for gathering, storage, of planning data and information and updating same.

8. Preparation of design rules, regulations, and specifications for the various urban development projects.
9. Review of the major projects applications and following-up its implementation procedures.

10. Participation in preparation of building regulations and by-laws, and proposal of ways to update &modernize such regulations.
11. Monitoring and conducting of field surveys on the urban structure of the towns & urban communities.

12. Building Regulation, sorting, merging and subdivision of Lands.
13. Defining of sites required for the services and public and utilities, in coordination with the concerned authorities.
