MVEP Birth Registration

In order to register a child under 18 years of age in the Croatian Birth Registry an application may be submitted by a legal representative provided that at the time of the child’s birth, one of the parents was a Croatian citizen.

Applications can be submitted by parents through the Embassy or directly at the Registry Office in Croatia according to the place of residence/address of the Croatian citizen parent.

If the parent(s) is/are not in a position to travel to Croatia they can assign power of attorney to a relative/friend who can file the application on their behalf in Croatia.

The application form (available at the Embassy when applying) must be accompanied by the following :
** A valid passport of the legal representative who submitted the request;
** A valid Croatian passport of a parent who is a Croatian citizen;

** A birth certificate – a UK birth certificate must be legalized at the Legalization Office with an Apostille stamp and translated into Croatian by an official interpreter in the UK (a list of Croatian interpreters in the UK is available in the Consular Section of this web site) or by a certified court interpreter in Croatia.

** A statement of consent by the parents on the registered residence/address of the child.

Time frame :
The average duration of proceedings from when the application is submitted through the Embassy until the registration of the child is 3 to 6 months. The same procedure in the Registrar’s Office in Croatia can be made the same day.

Fee : 29 GBP. The Embassy reserves the right to request additional documents while conducting legally obligatory proceedings related to each request filed.

Get your document legalised :
** You can get certain official UK documents ‘legalised’ by asking the Legalisation Office to confirm that the signature, stamp or seal is from a UK public official.
** You might need to do this if an official in another country has asked you to provide a UK document and they’ve said it must be legalised.

** The Legalisation Office will check the document, including whether the signature, stamp or seal is genuine. They’ll legalise the document by attaching a stamped official certificate (an ‘apostille’) to it.

** You can’t get documents issued outside the UK legalised using this service – get them legalised in the country they were issued.

What you’ll need :
To use the service you’ll need :
** the documents you want to legalise
** a credit or debit card for payment
** the address you want your documents returned to
** access to a printer
** If you don’t enter any information for more than 30 minutes, your application will time out and you’ll have to start again.

How long it takes :
** It normally takes 2 working days to process your documents using the standard service, plus courier or postage time. Applications during peak periods around Easter and summer can take up to 10 days.

Premium same-day business service :
** The premium same-day business service is for registered businesses only and costs £75 per document.
** Documents must be taken to and collected from the premium office in central London.
** You need an account to use the premium service. Sign in if you’re an existing user or create an account.
