Registering for Charitable Organisation Status :
** Charitable organisations are organisations that carry out charitable activities or exist exclusively for charitable purposes.

** They operate on a non-profit basis and may be incorporated or non-incorporated. Organisations involved in charitable, sporting or religious activities must be registered as ‘Charitable Organisations’ or ‘Sporting Bodies’ with the Ministry of Finance to qualify for concessions such as tax and duty relief and motor vehicle tax waivers.

** Please note that the approval of charitable status does not guarantee waiver of duties and taxes on imported or purchased goods.

Network of Civil Society Organisations :
** The Network of Civil Society Organisations consists of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Community-Based Organisations (CBOs) and Faith-Based Organisations (FBOs) that function at the local level in various communities. The Network is designed to disseminate information about social programmes and identify issues of poverty and vulnerability within communities in Trinidad and Tobago.

** Organisations that are part of this network are able to share information, and access services and learning opportunities that allow them to increase their contribution to their communities. Members of the public can also access community services and information through the Network.

Who can be a member?
Only NGOs, CBOs and FBOs can join the Network of Civil Society Organisations. These groups must provide proof of status along with their application for membership.

How can I become a member?
** To become a member of the Network of Civil Society Organisations, a membership application form should be obtained from the nearest EU Poverty Reduction Programme (EUPRP) Project Implementation Unit. A list of these offices can be found by following the link below. Completed forms should be delivered in person to the EUPRP Project Implementation Unit.

** Once the application is submitted, it is considered by the Network and the membership application is either approved or rejected. A decision is usually made within one month and the applicant will receive an official letter of notification once the application is approved.

What are the eligibility requirements for membership?
The following requirements must be met in order for membership to be granted :
** Proof of group status, such as a Certificate of Incorporation, constitution, group bank account or group structure. This must be submitted with the application form.
** Group programmes must be aimed at assisting the poor and vulnerable in society.

What fees do I pay?
A nominal membership fee is charged upon application according to the region in which the organisation is based. This fee is payable annually in order to maintain member status. A renewal notice will be sent to the member organisation by the network.
